Disney is Already Close to Greenlighting a Sequel to Tron Legacy?« FirstShowing.net

Though the reviews may be split almostright down the middle, you can't deny thatTron Legacycreated some massive buzz and really pleased some hardcore geeks out there. It's also great to see the power ofComic-Con hyperesult in a big blockbuster and its moderately successful release. Well now it sounds likeTron Legacywas successful enough that the seeds planted in the franchise reboot of sorts may get a chance to grow.AICNhas word from their"Grapevine of Industry Insiders"that Disney is incredibly close togreenlighting a sequelto keep the story of Sam Flynn pushing forward, so we won't have to wait another 28 years for a sequel this time.

Nothing is official yet, and it's not clear when Disney might make this announcement, but it's not really surprising. Even though the film had plenty of closure, there's definitely some subplots left open to be dealt with at a later time (especially one concerning a great actor as a new character with ties to a villain from the originalTron). And whileTron Legacywasn't as huge a success as an installment ofHarry Potter, theworldwide box office takeis nothing to ignore, and the merchandising that comes with the franchise certainly helps. As someone who thoroughly enjoyedTron Legacy(even though it has plenty of flaws), I'm interested in seeing where the story goes from here (especially if Daft Punk does the score again). How about you?
