Andy Samberg and Johnny Knoxville Could Join'Three Stooges'« FirstShowing.net

The project has gone through plenty of ups and downs throughout its decade long gestation, specifically a fluctuating cast thatonce includedJim Carrey, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro, but development onThe Three Stoogessaunters forward. Though co-writer/co-director Peter Farrelly has mentioned hefears for the worstwith this project, news in December reported that it hadmoved to Foxwith intention of starting production in March. It looks like that's still on asThe WrapreportsJohnny Knoxville,Andy Sambergand Australian comicShane Jacobsonhave been shortlisted to play Moe, Larry and Curly respectively.

Farrellypreviously saidthe cast could include a major movie star or a complete unknown andno onewould be counted out, and these names certainly meet both criteria so far. The reputations ofJackassmastermind Johnny Knoxville and"Saturday Night Live"favorite Andy Samberg precede them, but Shane Jacobson is virtually unknown in the U.S. However, down under, the comedian can be seen in several commercials and hosts"Top Gear Australia."You can see Jacobson in this Australian commercialright hereas well asthis trailerforKenny, a mockumentary for which Jacobson has received much praise.

While I'm still wary of this project actually getting off the ground, the cast does sound intriguing. I'm just not sure it's going to be easy see past Samberg and Knoxville's respective antics and personality to which we've become accustomed. Personally, I think more unknown talent is the way to go, but the studio is likely looking for some big names (especially ones that appeal to the younger demographics unfamiliar with"The Three Stooges") to try and get this project out of development hell and into theaters. One thing's for sure, brotherly writing and directing duo Peter and Bobby Farrelly certainly have their hands full. What do you think of this potential cast?
