George Clooney Leading Adaptation of'The Monster of Florence'« FirstShowing.net

In the recent news, it's become clear thatGeorge Clooneyis quite busy both in front of and behind the camera. In addition to directingThe Ides of Marchand being attached to helm an adaptation of a stage musicalabout the Enron scandal, Clooney is also supposed to star in Alfonso Cuaron's sci-fi filmGravityand maybe Steven Soderbergh's adaptation ofThe Man from U.N.C.L.E.But nowDeadlinehas word on another starring vehicle for the A-list star as Fox 2000 has just closed a deal to adapt Douglas Preston and Mario Spezi'snon-fiction crime thrillerThe Monster of Florence, the story of the duo's attempt to solve a 30-year old serial murder case.

Clooney would play Preston in the story following the investigation of the murder of seven couples killed between 1974 and 1985 while parked in their cars just outside of the titular Italian city. With a cold trail and uncooperative police, Spezi and Preston weren't sure if they would ever solve the case. While you can find out the outcome by reading the book (or even just a summary elsewhere), I'll leave that tidbit unspoiled. It's not clear how soon Clooney would shoot the project, especially since Christopher McQuarrie and Nathan Alexander (who both worked onValkyrie) still have to write the script. It certainly sounds like quite a captivating crime thriller, but we're still not sure who will direct it, so stay tuned.Interested?
